This Beer Officially Blue Itself

What's not to love about the country of Japan? They're the unquestioned leaders in the air-conditioned pants market and are absolutely crushing the creepy robot cat game. And now, by way of our English Muffins at Firebox, we've discovered Abashiri Blue Beer—the bluest beer in the entire world.

Regardless—or perhaps because—of all the possible Arrested Development jokes, we're going to go ahead and give it a huge thumbs up.

So what gives this beer its outlandish color? Blue seaweed, locally grown flowers, and—believe it or not—melted iceberg water from the Sea of Okhotsk. Hear that, Titanic? Turns out icebergs really aren't all that bad after all. Too soon?

So how does it taste? Well, according to Firebox, the flavor is sadly nothing like raspberry Slushies...so you can get that idea out of your head. Until we can get our hands on this specialty brew, we're going to have to assume it has that refreshingly dry bite that most Japanese beers have.

It pairs incredibly well with salmon teriyaki—and we base that only on the fact that everything pairs well with salmon teriyaki.

Jeremy Glass is the Vice editor for Supercompressor and would kill 200,000 men for a bite of salmon teriyaki right now.
