This alien device might soon silence street noise

If you've ever fantasized about silencing that 7 a.m. jackhammer or late-night car alarm outside at the press of a button, get ready for the Sono, a small window-mounted disk that employs an advanced noise-cancelling system to reduce the levels of maddening audio smog. While currently only a finalist for the prestigious James Dyson Award, the speaker-equipped suction cup can isolate outside sound both big and subtle — from dumptrucks to rustling leaves — and allows you to amplifiy the most pleasant of the bunch. We'll let you know if and when it hits the market, but in the meantime, check out the demo video and get excited.
