The car of the future looked so sexy in 1955

In 1954 Lincoln tapped a tiny Italian coachbuilder to see what the future of automobiles might look like. A few months later, just in time for the 1955 Turin auto show, they delivered this: the Indianapolis Coupe. Rumor has it that when Henry Ford II finally laid eyes on it he outright bought the car from his own company just to make sure that he could drive it whenever he pleased. The car then caught the eye of legendary playboy actor Errol Flynn, who convinced Ford that he needed it more than him. Ford obliged.

Every inch of the car was designed to reflect the birth of the Jet Age, including the six-barrel exhaust that came out on either side, in front of the car doors.

It might look simple now, but the instrument cluster was cutting edge at the time.

Boana coachwork was behind some of the most incredibly beautiful cars in the world, including the Karmann Ghia.

Every inch has been restored by a cost-is-no-object custom shop, which makes the expected price tag on this thing all the more inflated.
