These retro-modern racing prints will blow your mind

Whether it's the perception of danger or a romanticizing of motorsport's glorious history, there's something about vintage race shots that pretty much every car lover red-blooded man in the world can appreciate. A French car guy/amazing photographer's proving that universality with a series of breathtaking vintage prints that're actually modern in most respects.

Laurent Nivalle's an art director who's spent the past 13 years in the car industry, so it's entirely understandable that most of the race cars he picks are, you know, legitimately epic, like this Gulf-liveried Porsche 917 that dominated the international racing scene 40 years ago.

Amazingly, these are all taken in more or less the present day; this shot of a Renault prototype was from last year's historical-class race at Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans.

He then processes all the shots to give 'em that vintage feel without going all Instagram-y. The end result is photos that are actually far more detailed than most legitimately old photos while perfectly mimicking their vibe.

You can get them in sizes from 50 to 120 centimeters — he is French, after all — and you request satin, varnished, or bonded on aluminum, to prevent it from flexing over time.
