Charge your phone with a pocket-size power plant

The Brunton Hydrogen Reactor is basically a mini power plant of energy, a handheld device that can keep your cellular going for days on end, no plugs required. It’s difficult to convey the sheer power of this little machine. Once you slot the battery-sized hydrogen cores into the cartridge’s tubes, the reactor’s fuel cell starts separating positively-charged ions from negatively-charged electrons, then spits the electrons into a circuit and the ions into an electrolyte membrane, where the ions mingle with oxygen from the air emit a little water vapor. All of this generates a terrifying amount of energy.

If that’s a little too wonky, let’s put it this way. You remember the hydrogen reactor that blew up a city block in the 1990s Keanu Reeves/Morgan Freeman cinema classic Chain Reaction, yes? Well, that’s what’s powering your phone. It’s just $150, due in October, and comes in handy during camping trips or extended power outages (with conveniently portable individual cartridges selling for $15, and four-packs priced at $50). Plus, you get to brag to friends that you have a hydrogen reactor that can fit in your pocket.
