This Lofted Concrete Bunker is the Ultimate Backyard Retreat

From pub sheds to modular office pods, there are countless ways to cobble together a special spot in your backyard to escape the madness of everyday life. However, it looks like the talented team at Olson Kundig Architects has perfected the concept with The Brain, a kickass lofted concrete bunker in the woods near Seattle.

The 14,280 cubic foot spread was commissioned by a filmmaker in search of a special retreat that would help him focus better on projects. To bring such a space to life, the architects drew inspiration from typical suburban garages, the romanticized "neighborhood birthplace of invention." Unlike a typical garage, though, it's decked out with a slew of sophisticated mid-century modern furnishings. dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, a rich wooden floor, and a lighting scheme straight out of a Restoration Hardware showroom.

As if that weren't enough to induce home office envy, the lofted second level is set up with a long workstation overlooking the sprawling space below and a fire pole escape bring you down there in a flash.
