Brew Espresso From Your Smartphone

You know what's delicious? A perfectly-brewed non-fat, soy-based, double-shot latte with a gentle dusting of cinnamon. You know what's entirely too easy to mess up? A perfectly-brewed non-fat, soy-based, double-shot latte with a gentle dusting of cinnamon. Hell, it's almost 2015 and humans still can't perfect the art of making—inarguably—the most important beverage of the day. Until now.

Meet Arist, the smartphone-controlled coffee machine that won't screw up your morning joe, or spell your name wrong.

Arist is the personal, intelligent (refreshingly non-human) barista that is programmed to brew your coffee in the most precise and consistent way every time. The accompanying app gives you control of every single element of the brew and even gives you a catalogue of recipes to download and customize. Ha! And we thought robots were evil this whole time.

You can choose the type of beans you want to drink, adjust the grind size, tinker with the tamping force, up the water force & temperature, and even maximize the amount milk foam you get. Best use of smartphone technology and high standards since Tinder.

Yes, you can even add chocolate. The machine syncs to the app via WiFi and brews both previously assigned default recipes and specialty drinks easily. It can also introduce you to recipes based on the previously-saved recipes within the app.

Does this mean the days of waiting in long lines to get your hands around a seasonal pumpkin-based milk bevvy are behind us? No—not until machines like Arist catch on around the world. Sure, you won't have any more bearded bro-ristas to chat about the new Grizzly Bear album with, but you were just doing that for the attention. ADMIT IT.

Jeremy Glass is the Vice editor for Supercompressor and his favorite Grizzly Bear album is the one where they recorded actual grizzly bears.
