This Portable Backpack Safe Is The Best Worst Idea

If you could safely stash your pack somewhere for a few hours, your life would probably be significantly easier. But short of establishing a citywide locker system, that isn't likely to happen. That's not to say there aren't some valiant attempts, like the Pacsafe 12L GII. A small bag reinforced with flexible metal cables that keeps the contents from being cut out, the Pacsafe has a TSA-approved, three-digit combination lock allowing it to be secured to a "fixture in your hotel room, by the pool, in a car, or in-flight."

This is a pretty genius concept. If you could simply lock your goods up without doing a potentially-miles-long waltz around a city to drop your stuff off, you'd save tons of time. Or when you're traveling, you can turn that watchful gaze on other things besides inventorying all of your valuables after the maid made the rounds.

But to us, it seems patently obvious that you would have to exercise the utmost caution leaving one of these tied up. We're not even talking about the steel cable that a pair of bolt cutters could dispatch, but rather the fact that this thing looks like it could shut down a city block in five minutes, especially this city, given this never-ending ad campaign.
