Cool Hunting Made a Jacket for Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. While you might not be doing anything about it besides your usual participation in recycling, Cool Hunting certainly is. Teaming up with Ecoalf, they've recycled old fishing nets to create a Cool Hunting Earth Day Anorak.

The 650,000 tons of discarded nets floating around our oceans — as well as tons of other trash — kill around a million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles each year. Besides the cleanup factor of removing the ocean's unwanted nets, upcycling removes the need for producing new materials, reducing the fabric's carbon footprint. For every 235 grams of fishing nets Ecoalf collects, they produce a meter of fabric.

The lightweight anorak itself is made with 60 percent recycled fishnets — 333 grams of nets — and standard nylon. It's waterproof and has camouflage detailing on the half-zip, and compresses into a pouch for travel. Obviously, it only comes in green.
